GOVERNMENT HOUSE,
4th July, 1916.

Sir,
G418
With reference to my despatch No. 218 of the
31st May, I have the honour to inform you that the Admiralty
Collier "Kathleen" arrived from Moji, Japan, on the 26th June
with 4,754 tons of coal for this Government and Naval and
Military purposes. The vessel also loaded from the coal pur- -chased by this Government 1,505 tons for her own bunkers. I presume that the space occupied by the bunker coal, which is over one thousand tons, will be deducted in reckoning the amount
to be paid for freight.
2.
It is proposed, if freights are reasonable, to
charter a ship in August and September to bring to Hongkong the
remainder of the coal purchased in Japan, about 14,000 tons.
I have the honour to be,
Sir,
Your most obedient,
humble servant,
Amaz
Governor,&c..
